Kirsten Wild winner in Vårgårda!

Results World Cup Vårgårda Road Race sunday 1/8

Emma Pooley (Cervelo TT) was the first to bring on the agressive spirit on todays worldcuprace in Vårgårda, Sweden. She spent the first half of the race in a break on her own. After a mid section of quite calm racing was the heat turned up on the final of 12 laps. World Cup leader Marianne Vos atacked with six km to go. Cervelo TT went after the self-appointed rabbit like greyhounds. On the homestraight Vos was chought and Kirsten Wild siesed the second consecutive world cup-victory for Cervelo TT in three days.

Emma Pooley took charge of the race at an early state today. She was away on a solomission on the first 50 km of the 132 km race.

As the Brit was brought back to the peleton it was time for an Aussie to show the force from down under. Shara Gillow succeeded in getting a gap of well over a minute to the pack before the luck turned on her. She had a flat and had to stop and change wheel.

The second half of the race lacked the agressive racing. That was compensated by the fireworks set of by worldcup-leader Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloeit) on the final climb. Six km before the finish she launched an attack that made the rest of the peleton stand still.

Cervelo TT was the squad who had the most power to organise a chase of the furious dutch. The effort paid off and the 23-year old multi-talent was reeled in on the finishing straight.

-There was no time to think, commentated Cervelo’s Kirsten Wild after the race. -It was full gas when we passed Vos. Wild was the fastest woman in the sprint that followed. She narrowly beat fellow countrywoman Adrie Visser (HTC-Columbia).

The homecrowd cheered as Emma Johansson in the national championsjersey crossed the line on the final podiumposition.

-It was do-or-die in the final corner. I managed to stay upright, said Emma after the race.

Marianne Vos stas in the lead of the world cup but her competition was catching up. Johansson gained 30 points on the rival which means she still is in contention for the titel on the final round in France.

Emma Johansson is preparing for Open du Suède. On Tuesday she won the first stage of Thüringen Rundfahrt, showing she’s in great shape.

Emma Johansson is by far the hottest Swedish female rider in Open du Suède in Vårgårda. She’s now second in the 2010 UCI Women Road World Cup. Only Marianne Vos has more points. The Dutch riders has 198 points, Emma Johansson 125.

- Of course it’s a tough situation, Emma Johansson admits, but I will take one race at the time and hopefully score more points than Marianne.

Every rider in the winning team in the team time trial in Vårgårda will be rewarded 35 World Cup points, the riders in the runner up team 30 points. For third place the riders get 25 points.

Last year Marianne Vos gained two more points than Emma Johansson in the team time trial. This season their teams are still equally strong so it’s in the road race that Emma Johansson has a chance to even the World Cup score. 75 World Cup points for first place, 50 for second place, 35 for third place. The 20 first riders to cross the finishing line will be rewarded WC-points.

- I’m in great shape and I have a feeling this can be a really good race, Emma Johansson says. The season so far has been great – I’m more aggressive, taking more chances and it has paid off.
